Tooth Sensitivity and What You Can Do About It
If you are experiencing pain when you bite, chew, or eat hot or cold foods, you may be a victim of tooth sensitivity. Talk to our Westlake dentist about the facts regarding tooth sensitivity.
Tooth sensitivity is usually triggered by the temperature of food or drinks, or by highly acidic or very sweet items. Approximately half of the people in the United States experience tooth sensitivity at some point.
Tooth sensitivity becomes more common with age. This is because the normal cause of tooth sensitivity is an exposed tooth root due to gum disease and receding gums. It can also be caused by brushing too hard, or with the wrong type of toothbrush or toothpaste.
You may notice tooth sensitivity with certain food or drink, or it may appear during a routine dental cleaning or other activity. As soon as you notice tooth sensitivity, it is time to do something about it. Tooth sensitivity does not go away on its own, but there are treatments available.
To reduce your chances of getting tooth sensitivity, brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day. You should also try to stay off acidic foods as much as possible to protect your teeth against tooth sensitivity.
Our Westlake cosmetic dentist can explain the causes of tooth sensitivity for you and address it accordingly. Make an appointment today to talk to our professionals, and end tooth sensitivity once and for all!
